Project Overview

The Australia Post Northern Packaging Centre recently upgraded their lighting system by replacing 247 existing LED lights with 110 of enLighten’s new low glare LED highbays. The existing lights were failing and delivering diminished performance due to lumen depreciation.

The result was significantly enhanced lighting levels and uniformity as well as energy reduction.

The Solution

A Parcel Distribution Centre (PDC) for Australia Post serves as a critical hub for sorting, handling, and distributing parcels efficiently within a specific region. PDCs use conveyor belts, lifts, turntables, and scanning systems to mechanize the sorting process, reducing manual intervention and enabling high throughput of parcels per hour

Access to remove the existing lights and positioning the new luminaires proved quite challenging due to the positioning of the automated sorting equipment. MPE Group organised for 3 different types of elevated work platforms to ensure the new luminaires were installed in their correct location.

The enLighten design team designed a solution that met both the lux levels and uniformity specified by Australia Post to ensure the workers were provided with an environment that reduced fatigue, enhanced safety and improved overall work performance. 

The designers selected a higher power low glare HB119 highbay, replacing the older lower power LED lights.  The new design resulted in a reduction of 137 lights whilst significantly improving the lighting outcome and reducing energy consumption.

Why enLighten? 

Faced with the need to maintain consistent, high-quality illumination for their operations, the decision to select enLighten was influenced by the brand’s strong reputation for reliability and quality.  enLighten  offered a comprehensive lighting design, and selected a product that was high efficacy, able to operate in 50° temperatures with a 7 year warranty. While the upfront cost was higher than some alternatives, the client valued the long-term benefits of enLighten’s product performance, including excellent luminous output, reduced glare, and durability in demanding environments.

This project exemplifies how investing in trusted LED lighting solutions can deliver lasting results, justifying the premium through enhanced performance and reliability.
